Yateley Society Natural History Group

The Natural History Group has been responsible for carrying out its own surveys conducted by members and has paid out of Society funds for habitat assessment surveys commissioned from acknowledged experts. Previously commissioned for furthering knowledge of the environment, the habitat surveys are now playing a major role in planning inquiries. Not restricted to flora and fauna, the Group carried out a survey a Yateley's water courses -- useful when Yateley was subject to regular extensive flooding before adequate drains were installed. A major achievement of the Natural History Group was the designation of the Royal Oak Valley as an area for nature conservation. This project necessitated organisation of work parties to clear fly tipping.
